The European Commission proposed a common energy rating scheme for data centres above 500kW. The EU wants to triple its data centre capacity in five to seven years for AI and digital sovereignty, and says data centres could use 114TWh a year by 2030, about 3% of its electricity, up from 68TWh in 2024.
