Truecaller opens a free Scam Checker for links, numbers and messages

TechCrunch· 27 Sep

Truecaller launched Scam Checker, a free web and Android service. You paste in a suspicious phone number, link or message, and it expands short links, follows redirects, and checks them against its risk database, other fraud signals and community reports. It starts in India, then expands to Latin America, the Middle East and Africa, and Southeast Asia. Screenshot uploads are planned.

  • Agree a simple rule with staff: check any unexpected payment link or number before acting on it, using a checker you trust.
  • Report scams that use your business name to the platform where they appear, so community feeds can warn others.
