Anthropic updates its Usage Policy: clearer rules for health, finance and legal uses, effective 12 November
Anthropic published its 2026 Usage Policy, which takes effect on 12 November. It adds one section on deceptive campaigns and artificial activity, such as fake accounts and fabricated sites, whether political or commercial. It rewrites the high-risk section to list which recommendations need a qualified human reviewer and a notice to the person affected, and it adds a ban on sustained, needless abuse of its models.
- If you use Claude for anything that affects a customer's health, legal rights, money or livelihood, read the rewritten high-risk section and check that a named person reviews each output.
- If you run AI-written reviews, fake follower accounts or bulk posting under different names, stop before 12 November: the new section covers commercial deception as well as political.
