Google opens its SynthID Detector to everyone, to check whether an image, video or audio file was made with AI
Google made its SynthID Detector available to everyone, globally in English. You upload an image, video or audio file and it tells you whether it carries a SynthID watermark from Google or from partners including OpenAI, NVIDIA and Kakao, with Apple to come. Google says it has watermarked over 180 billion images and videos. The check also sits in Search, the Gemini app and Chrome, which handle over a million requests a day.
- Keep the detector bookmarked for when a supplier photo, a testimonial video or a voice message looks off, and run the file through it before you act on it.
- Treat a negative result as unproven rather than clean: it only finds content made with partner tools that add the watermark.
